about

I have always been deeply touched by this lovely song and the way it so eloquently ties America’s high ideals of brotherhood with its stunning natural beauty. It was created in 1910 by combining Katharine Lee Bates’ poem, “America”, with a pre-existing melody written by church organist Samuel E. Ward.
